Jim Campilongo + Busta Rhymes

The Jim Campilongo + Honeyfingers record, “Last Night, This Morning” is out officially now! We got a nice review from Vintage Guitar, you can check it out here.
Luca Benedetti and Jim did a great job on this one, I finally got to listen to it in a car and I think it sounds pretty fantastic. You can grab it from the iTunes store or Amazon.

We are playing a CD release show at Rockwood 2 on September 28th where we will play the entire record for you! Full band in tow! Pedal steel! Guitars! Bass and drums!

I also had the privilege of recording some guitar with rap legend, Busta-Rhymes. That was an unexpected and fun call, Busta was great to work with in the studio.

I am currently in Paris, playing the last Atomic Bomb Band show for the year at Jazz A Villette and getting ready for some much needed downtime where I hope to be recording some new music and finishing some Honeyfingers records!!

Sinkane on World Cafe Live

After many months of making a joke about the ubiquitous “North East Winter Tour”, which is both cold and dangerous, we booked one. Cleveland, Toronto, Baltimore, Arden, North Hampton, New York (which ended up on the coldest night in NY in many years), Boston, Montreal, Burlington, Portland, and Portsmouth. Between the arctic wind, polar vortex, and freezing temperatures we found time for some winter hikes, good food, guitar shopping and a performance on World Cafe Live with David Dye.
I played both pedal steel guitar and regular guitar on the 4 song mini set with an interview with, Ahmed Gallab, in between songs.

Sinkane on Dummy Mag

Sinkane recorded a live session for Dummy Mag last time we were in London and it got released a few weeks ago. The video is really beautiful and the sound is good. I’m actually pleased with my pedal steel playing! After a year of relentless touring and hundreds(no joke) of hours playing music together, the machine is really starting to get running. I’m happy to be playing a bunch of pedal steel guitar during the shows and its featured heavily in this song, “Mean Love”. I’m glad to be out with these guys.

FALL 2014

I am going to be on tour A LOT this fall promoting, SINKANE’s new record that comes out this week! He has been getting all kinds of amazing press and I am looking forward to seeing what happens as we star the tour cycle. I am currently in London, to do a BBC6 radio session and then a Rough Trade In-Store, and then we are off to Berlin to start tour. It’s really exciting to be playing guitar AND pedal steel as we take this show on the road! For tour dates, check out the band’s website.

In the MEANTIME, my country band Honeyfingers just finished 4 days at The Rumpus Room studio recording Zephaniah’s originals, some covers for some EXCITING guests, and a bunch of instrumental stuff. It was an honor to be in the studio with these guys, Luca Benedetti, Jim Campilongo, Russ Meissner, Zephaniah O’Hora, Kelli Scarr, Dave Speranza, and Roy Williams. Here is a little taste….

Alexis Taylor @ Manhattan Inn 5/4

I met Alexis in London at the UK Onyeabor shows and was blown away after hearing him cover, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”, during a soundcheck at the Barbican. We bonded over country music and he mentioned that on his new solo effort, “Awaits Barbarians”, he initially imagined pedal steel and we made plans to play this solo show that Domino Records had set up. The morning after our 2nd BAM show, and we met at the stage to gather our gear from night before and headed straight to an early morning rehearsal. Sarah Jones, who tours with Hot Chip, was on tour in the US with, New Young Pony Club, and joined us on drums.
The Manhattan Inn provided a BEAUTIFUL environment for Alexis’ beautiful ethereal voice and songs. It was a memorable experience as the packed house sat in quiet attention.
Here is a review of the show, and a video from his encore of a Hot Chip tune, and a Prince tune. Pretty awesome.
