NY Times review of Onyeabor BAM shows

After months and months of extremely hard work, we played our first and maybe last run of US shows, as the Atomic Band featuring David Byrne, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Luke Jenner (The Rapture), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), Joshua Redman, Money Mark, The Lijadu sisters, and Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsytem, Museum of Love).
Our shows in the UK with Damon Albarn were amazing and this run of shows in the US were no different. Here is a review in the NY Times by writer Ben Ratliff, whose work i have greatly appreciated through the years!

Sinkane + William Onyeabor

I just got back from the first two shows of the William Onyeabor project with Sinkane. The core band was Sinkane, Money Mark(Beastie Boys), Pat Mahoney(LCD Soundsystem) and we featured special guests; Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), Ghost Poet, and the Lijadu Sisters who were performing for the first time in 30 years.

It was an incredible experience getting to play with all these different musicians, and having a great support team in London made things as easy as pie.

I even get a little mention in the London Evening Standard’s review of the sold out show at the Barbican Centre.

Check out this song with Damon Albarn!

Sinkane with David Byrne and Damon Albarn

I have been playing electric guitar in the band, Sinkane. We have been asked to be the core band on a project to celebrate the music of William Onyeabor. William is an enigmatic musician from Nigeria, who after 7 successful years and 8 records renounced his music career and disappeared (Here is a link to a documentary and here is an NPR feature). Luaka Bop discovered his music and have released a compilation and are releasing an 8 LP set which will feature all of his EXTREMELY rare records.
Money Mark (Beastie Boys) and Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem) will round out the band and we will be joined by musicians like, Joshua Redman in the horn section and the Lijadu sisters, who havent performed in 30 years. The guest vocalists will be; David Byrne, Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) and more. This project will be playing in London and Bristol before heading back to the states to play 2 shows in NY and 2 shows in California. Check my calendar page for links to buy tickets and to see tour dates. Its all pretty exciting. Hope to see you out there.

Norah Jones + Billie Joe Armstrong

Norah and Billie(Green Day) are releasing an Everly Brothers tribute record called, “Foreverly” and I was lucky enough to play pedal steel on 2 tracks. We recorded it in New York at the Magic Shop recording studio. It gets released on Nov 26th 2013. It sounds really great.

My band, Honeyfingers, has spent the last few months working with NY guitarist, Jim Campilongo, doing arrangements of his tunes for 2 guitars and steel guitar. We are honored to play the last show of his 8 year Living Room residency on October 21st, I think this will be a special night. Here is a song from a gig at Barbés.
